Having delivered a speech in Ordu, Mr. Bekir Pakdemirli, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, has noted: "Turkey has made remarkable progress in beekeeping.  Our honey production rose from 70 thousand tons to 110 thousand tons in the last 10-15 years. We need to focus on marketing in the period ahead. Because, as the second largest producer in the world, we are still not where we want to be".

"TURKEY HAS MADE GREAT PROGRESS IN BEEKEEPING"

Dr. Bekir Pakdemirli, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, first paid a visit to the Metropolitan Municipality of Ordu where he went for a number of visits. Following the visit, closed to the press, Minister Pakdemirli went to the Beekeeping Research Institute, made inspections at the facility, and received a briefing about the work carried out. Minister Pakdemirli has told reporters that the institute is in the real sense an exemplary facility with an investment of 10m Euros.

Having touched upon that Turkey has attained a very important level in beekeeping in recent years, Minister Pakdemirli has noted: "Turkey has made great progress in beekeeping, honey production rose from 70 thousand tons to 110 thousand tons in the last 10-15 years. Progress is extremely good. The past adulteration practices no longer exist thanks to the increasing controls in Turkey. In this sense, the level Turkey has achieved is good".

THE EXPORTS SHOULD FURTHER INCREASE

Having emphasized that Turkey has not attained the adequate level in terms of marketing although it is the second largest producer in the world honey production, Minister Pakdemirli has stated: "We should deal with how we market it in the period ahead; how we bring the geographic indication to the fore; how we increase our marketing and exports. Because, as the second largest producer in the world, we are still not where we want to be. Our exports are still around 7 thousand tons. We should have a better share in the world.  Ordu should have a batter share. Because, given both the work carried out and the quality of the honey, Ordu is at a critical juncture. Hopefully, along with the distinguished Major we will carry out some tasks at the local level in the coming period. Beekeeping we will do our best to raise honey production to a better level".
